The Horror Movies – Split Versus Us

Have you ever been shocked by the horror movie and couldn’t sleep at night? Recently, the directors who film the horror movies want to convey not only the movies’ thrilling parts but also deeper meanings from the movies. In other words, by using the internal plots brings about the real issues. In Us, the director, Jordan Haworth Peele, is trying to satirize the US government’s policy which is based on a true event in 1986. On the other hand, the movie Split also exists a man who has 24 distinct personalities in the real world. Both directors take advantage of the real issue to shoot movies, making them more real and close to us.The following paragraphs will introduce psychological problems and the characters in common and also talk about the different goals when kidnapping.

The first similar part is the characters in two movies have psychological problems to some extent. In Split, the protagonist Barry has identified 24 personalities. In addition, Barry sometimes can’t control his other personalities to come out as the dominant personality. While in Us, the cruel science experiments made the clones insane because they were created by the government to control their counterparts on the surface. After being tortured extremely, the clones can’t help but find a way to solve the problem. That is, kill the counterparts and replace them. As you can see, both movies have the traits about the characters’ settings in common.

Apart from the psychological problems, the actors and actresses in two films have to play two or more roles. The main character, James MvAvoy who plays Barry and the other personalities in the movie Split. Similarly, the characters in Us mostly have to play two roles: one is the clone and the other is the counterparts. Indeed, it is a challenging part for these actors and actress to play the different characters in one movie. Surprisingly, there’s a scene that James MvAvoy has to play lots of personalities simultaneously. Also, he has to reveal how his personalities are fighting in the body. When seeing both movies, people would often appreciate the exquisite performing skills certainly.

Still, these two movies have the clips about kidnapping somebodies, but for different goals. In Split, the protagonist kidnaps three girls in order to summon “the beast” to come out. As offerings, these girls are selected because they have not ever suffered hardship in life. However, in the movie Us, resulted from having been tortured for a long time, the clones come into the surface and kidnap their counterparts or even kill them to replace the original one instead. Both Split and Us show the scenes about kidnapping, but they pursue different goals to achieve.

You can see that Split and Us both demonstrate in creepy way but actually present the distinct meanings in the films. Both movies’ settings are concerning people who have psychological problems similarly. Furthermore, from the aspect of performing skills, the actors or the actresses in Split and Us all have to play two or more characters simultaneously. And last, two movies all have a part regarding kidnapping, while the goals are distinctly different.
